The Haute-Ubaye is becoming one of my favourite places to ski tour. There’s something special about these high valleys: remote hamlets where time seems to stand still, vast landscapes and, for many visitors, the feeling of being somewhere far from home. A real change of scene, without catching a plane!
For five days, we’ll head out with light daypacks from two welcoming places to stay, in Fouillouse and Maljasset. From gentle tours through the larch forests to steep couloirs, there’s plenty to choose from. We’ll plan each day around the group’s wishes and the conditions, making the most of all the Haute-Ubaye has to offer.

The proposed itinerary is a general guide. Each day, we will choose the route based on the group’s skill level, the desired elevation gain, snow conditions, and the appeal of the hike.
I know the area well and always have several options in mind. Our plans may also change as the day goes on. That’s how I like to lead: adapting to the terrain and the group, while leaving plenty of room for everyone’s desires and spontaneous ideas!
Day 1: Hike from the Col de Vars
Kickoff day to get to know the group and the equipment and make any final adjustments to our gear before the event kicks off! A day to get back into the swing of things, during which we’ll talk a bit about risk management and safety equipment. We’ll set up camp and spend the night at our lodge in Fouillouse.
Possible hikes: Tête du Crachet, Grand Vallon, Tête du Paneyron
Day 2 and 3: Skiing around Fouillouse
Each day, we’ll choose the route based on the group’s preferences, the terrain, and snow conditions. On the evening of Day 3, we’ll head to Maljasset (a 30-minute transfer) and check in at the Auberge de la Cure.
Possible hikes: Col de Mirandol, L’Eyssilloun via the gullies or the southern slopes, Col de la Stroppia, Replat des Génisses, Ravin des Baumes, La Sauvagea, secret larch groves, etc.
Days 4 and 5
Each day, we’ll choose the route based on the group’s preferences, the terrain, and snow conditions. We’ll part ways in Maljasset after a day of skiing on Day 5.
Possible hikes: Pointe Basse de Mary, Tour de l’Aiguille Large, Col Mary, Vallon de Teste, Pointe Haute Mary couloir, etc.
