Five days of ski touring in the Haute Ubaye, from Fouillouse to Maljasset: powder, perfect spring snow and spectacular scenery. Discover the story of this beautiful journey through the mountains!

The Haute-Ubaye is my new neighborhood! I’ve barely gotten back from my trip to Ubayistan, and here I am back in these charming high valleys!
For the next five days, I’ll be with Mumu, Romain, Aurel, Flo, and Gilles. This isn’t our first time with this merry band—we’ve already had some great ski tours all over the Alps: Écrins, Cerces, Aosta Valley, and Silvretta.
Conditions have deteriorated a bit since last week, thanks to the wind, which has really changed the snow and continues to blow at the start of our trip. It’s nothing catastrophic, but we’re already having to adapt much more to the conditions to find good skiing.
We got off to a decent start heading toward the Col de Vars in the Grand Vallon, then made our way to our lodging in Fouillouse, where we’d be skiing for the next two days. This year, with more snow than usual, we’re able to explore the carpet-like slopes on the south face, toward La Sauvagea, and return via the Chambeyron refuge. And, as always, the days end with a hot bath or on the sun-drenched terrace of the lodge. A routine we never get tired of!
The final days of our trip from the cozy Auberge de la Cure in Maljasset, with a light snowfall that brought back the powder—so we could head out again with a spring in our step!
Beyond the skiing, those five days in the mountains, the breathtaking landscapes, and the indescribable charm of the Haute-Ubaye once again left a lasting impression.

- A warm-up near col de Vars, with a first outing into Grand Vallon before heading to Fouillouse, our base for the next few days.

- From Fouillouse, we head towards col de Stroppia for a lovely day amid the wild landscapes of Haute-Ubaye.
Day 3 – Sauvagea and refuge du Chambeyron
- We explore the south-facing slopes and broad expanses of Sauvagea. Plenty of snow makes for lovely skiing on softened spring snow, with a return via the refuge du Chambeyron before heading back to Fouillouse.
Day 4 – Aiguille Large
- We move our base to Maljasset and the auberge de la Cure, then head towards Aiguille Large for another day of skiing in the wide-open landscapes of Haute-Ubaye.
Day 5 – Below Pointe Basse de Mary
- A little fresh snowfall rounds off the trip perfectly. We head into the vallon de Mary and onto the slopes below Pointe Basse de Mary for more powder turns before leaving Haute-Ubaye.
