Introductory Ski Touring Queyras

With Maxence, I head out for an introduction to ski touring near Pic du Cros in the Queyras: an 800 m climb, a quiet col and a descent on spring snow.

An introduction to ski touring near Pic du Cros

A change of area and a change of scene! After three days in the Cerces with a lovely bunch, I meet up with Maxence, who is making the most of his holiday here to discover ski touring.

For this first day, we head to the Brunissard area in the Queyras: a place with plenty of possibilities!

We set off away from the crowds on a tour that takes us over an unnamed col near Pic du Cros. Max steadily gets used to these new sensations and makes good progress uphill.

An 800 m climb is already a fair effort for a first outing! We settle down at the col for a proper picnic, giving the snow in the bowl below us time to soften into lovely spring corn.

Then we must finally resign ourselves to our terrible fate. Max sacrifices himself by going first. A noble effort!

And to think we’ll have to do it all again tomorrow!
