Two days with Laurence and Christophe, who came to enjoy a beautiful break in the mountains with touring skis on their feet! A completely new activity for both of them.
Day 1: Ski touring from Ceillac (Tête du Girardin)
For our first day, we start from Ceillac with a little help from the ski lifts, which take us straight up to Lac Sainte-Anne. We put on our skins and, at the same time, leave the crowds behind. Our solitude is only briefly disturbed by a lone ski tourer.
We head towards the Col de Girardin. The climb is straightforward, with just two or three kick turns below the col. The view over the Ubaye and the Font-Sancte is simply magnificent! And when we turn around, the Écrins, the Cerces and the Haute-Maurienne are not bad either!

We put the skins back on and climb back up to the Col de Girardin.

All that remains is to ski back down to Lac Sainte-Anne in the last rays of sunshine.

Day 2: Variations around the Longet
For our second day, we move over to the next valley and start from Pont de Lariane, heading towards the Longet. The Vallon du Longet is a great ski-touring classic, popular for good reason. The setting beneath the north-facing couloirs dropping down from Château-Renard is magnificent.
But by looking just a little beyond the obvious route, we find a nearby ridge where we can quietly make our own tracks, just a stone's throw from the main valley. The higher we climb, the more exposed the ridge becomes, with some beautiful couloirs plunging away to our left.
The wind is blowing in strong gusts, encouraging us to save our lunch break for somewhere lower down in the valley. On the way up, I've spotted two sections of really good snow that should make for some enjoyable skiing!
Two very different styles: one section of powder and another of smooth spring snow! My two companions are gaining confidence!

A good lunch break in the sunshine on a conveniently placed bench, and then we simply let the skis run all the way back to the car!
Thanks to both of you for these two great days!
