Skitouring - Pointe des Marcelettes

I spend two days chasing powder around Saint-Véran in the Queyras, using both the ski lift and touring skins to explore the Pointe des Marcelettes area.

A ski track sweeps through fresh powder beneath a clear blue sky.

The Queyras is in lovely shape at the moment. There’s just the right amount of powder and, for once this winter, it’s fairly stable! That settles it. It’s my duty to make the most of these conditions. Someone’s got to put all those tracks in, or who else will?

For two days I drag my skis around the Pointe des Marcelettes near Saint-Véran, where there are loads of routes that tend to fly under the radar. To tackle the arduous business of drawing lines in the powder as efficiently as possible, I alternate between the drag lift and the skins.
