Introductory Course in Rock Climbing at Faurio

Three days of beginner mountaineering with Jérôme, Thibaut, Fabien and Charly, from Pic d’Arsine to Roche Faurio, with a sunrise worth the early start.

The roped participants follow a snow track on Roche Faurio, with the Écrins glaciers below.

A tried-and-tested introductory itinerary that’s become a classic… But an exceptional team!

And perfect weather… What else?

Barely back down from Les Agneaux, I find Jérôme, Thibaut, Fabien and Charly scattered around the hut terrace.

We hit it off: our three days together look promising!

There would certainly be plenty to write about. But my guiding schedule in high season doesn’t do much for my journalism… So this will be a short report!

Then again, a guide who spends their time in the mountains is probably better than one who spends their life at a computer!

J1 to J3 — From Pic du Glacier d’Arsine to Roche Faurio

A few photos from our three days, with a special mention for sunrise on the summit of Roche Faurio. With daylight arriving so early at this time of year, we couldn’t hang around if we wanted to catch it!

On the west ridge of Pic du Glacier d’Arsine, we discover an easy ridge route, ideal for getting used to this unfamiliar terrain.

La Roche Faurio—a great base! Stunning views from the summit, a high-mountain atmosphere, and much lower risks than at the Dôme... And then there’s watching the sunrise up there!!

Sorry for helping to pass on that terrible high-mountain bug to you!!
