After two days getting our ski legs back off-piste in Bardonecchia, we’re back in France. Haute Maurienne may not quite match the Hautes-Alpes—with their unrivalled climate, snow quality and mountain guides, of course—but it still has a few good things going for it!
From our base at the excellent Relais de la Diligence in Bramans, we have another day to polish our powder technique. And make a few technical adjustments before heading out ski touring... It’s hard to choose between all these tempting ski areas in Haute Maurienne! Val Cenis gets our vote for today...
Off-piste skiing in Val Cenis: quality work!
A slightly late start today, so we’ll make it a generous half-day. Rather than travelling from one end of this pretty extensive ski area to the other, I’d rather focus on one sector and get some quality work done!
We’ll just have to make do with a few laps through a perfect forest, with fresh tracks waiting almost everywhere we look. What more could we ask for! All interrupted, naturally, by a proper restaurant stop!
A little ski tour in the fading light
In the evening, while the lifties round up their flock, Tor and I head off for a short ski tour above the chairlift. A chance to enjoy the last rays of sunshine and ski a lovely slope that nobody has ventured onto yet—one I’ve had my eye on since this morning!
150 m of climbing for 400 m of untracked descent in divine powder, in the last light of the day? Hard to turn that down!
And to round off the day in style, Françoise has prepared a raclette for tonight, served by one of the most attentive raclette boys on the entire continent! What else?
