Ski touring in Saint-Véran in the Queyras with Manu: ski lifts, skins and two superb powder runs beneath Châteaurenard in the heart of the French Alps.

After yesterday’s warm-up on the Crête de Reychard, Manu suggests heading to the Queyras! He had great memories of our previous outing from Saint-Véran. We comfortably swallow up the first 1,000 vertical metres sitting on a nice soft chair travelling at 5,000 m/h. Not bad! From up there, I can already scout out our future playground. Today, happiness lies to the west!
First comes an exhausting climb of at least 100 m towards Châteaurenard, which brings us to the top of our first run of the day: a huge field of powder where we let out a few audible expressions of satisfaction... As is often the case, it’s over far too quickly!
The rest of the programme is crystal clear: skin back up, move across and do it all over again! A good lunch break at the observatory gives us time to choose our line and take in the scenery around us.
Our post-lunch run turns out to be every bit as good as the morning one...
