Introduction to ski touring in the Écrins with Régis and Émilie: deep powder, snow-covered larch forests and learning to ski in fresh snow.

First day with Régis and Émilie, and powder conditions that are pretty unusual for this time of year. At any rate, we young guides aren’t used to seeing this anymore! It’s still snowing, and visibility is very limited… Let’s stay in the woods!
Once again, the scene is set with snow, snow-laden trees, muffled sounds, and that cottony atmosphere… Just what it takes to transport Régis and Émilie into a time and place a little different from everyday life!
Rediscovering silence and solitude, letting your thoughts wander to the rhythm of your breath, taking your time, simply feeling good surrounded by nature… It’s so obvious when you’re there—why not do it more often!!
Today, no grand plans to go high up. Insisting on climbing a peak on a day like this would be downright stupid, since you can’t see more than 10 meters ahead! It’s the atmosphere that will make this day of ski touring in the Écrins truly magical!
And especially that big, soft cushion we have under our skis… and also, to some extent, the well-stocked lunch boxes from the lodge!
In any case, in this little snow-covered larch forest, we enjoy almost complete peace… The only person we’ll run into will be a friend from the village!
It was a learning experience for Régis and Émilie, too, since they’d never skied in powder this deep before… So, of course, it feels a little strange: it takes a little time to get your bearings and develop a whole new set of sensations!
