Steep skiing Northeast couloir of Tré la Tête

Seb and I miss the lift, bivvy by Lac Combal and ski nearly 1,100 metres of couloir on Tré la Tête, with views of the Italian side of Mont Blanc.

A skier climbs the steep northeast couloir of Tré la Tête below a sunlit rock face.

A ski trip—probably the last one of the season—to a remote corner of the Mont Blanc massif… After completely missing the ski lift, Seb came up with a Plan B that was even better than Plan A! We headed to the far reaches of Val Veny, a beautiful little slice of paradise for a romantic overnight stay by Lake Combal.

Day 1 — Camp at Lake Combal

We set up camp by the lake, at the far end of Val Veny.

Day 2 — Skiing the Northeast Couloir at Tré la Tête

The next day, a great challenge awaits us: a couloir nearly 1,100 meters long to climb up and down! A unique view of the back side of Mont Blanc—the Italians’ side…

A little bit of carrying on the way up and almost none on the way down—that's great!
