Off-piste skiing in Abriès, Queyras: 20 cm of fresh snow, forest runs to Valpréveyre and a post-lunch ski tour with the crew before catching the last bus.

Today, Abriès welcomes us with open arms! Tucked away at the far end of the Queyras, this little ski area offers plenty of off-piste possibilities, some better hidden than others, in surroundings that still feel wonderfully unspoilt!
The day’s little surprise: 20 cm of fresh snow at the top of the ski area, enough to cover the tracks from previous days! A few forest runs to get our ski legs going before dropping down towards Valpréveyre. Dream skiing for the first two-thirds of the descent; after that, the snow gets a little heavier...
A busy morning delivers us right on time for our restaurant stop. We take that seriously, if you please! An hour and a half later, we’re off again, a little heavier and tipsier, for a little afternoon ski tour to help lunch go down. Fortunately, we can ease back into things with a nap on the chairlift and a gentle descent through the woods towards Valpréveyre.
Now things get serious... Time to put the skins on and climb into that promising forest! Even Karl, who had already dreamed up a cunning escape plan, can’t resist the call of the pow echoing through the trees!
We take the climb at an easy pace, and the snow quality proves an excellent stimulant for the génépi crew! We emerge from the woods with perfect timing...
No further comment: whoops, delighted chuckles, laughter... and far fewer photos!
We arrive just in time to catch the last bus back to our cosy nest... The day ends beautifully over a few beers and an excellent Queyras-style croziflette! Let’s just say nobody stayed up late that evening!
