With Guillaume, a day of multi-pitch climbing in Champcella: La Rampe above Lac de la Rama, a nap and a change of plans on the Pilier de Rame to finish.

The icefalls are melting and the powder fields are drying out: there’s no choice but to dust off the climbing shoes!! It works out rather well for Guillaume, whose pack gets lighter with every activity we rule out! Another fine mission from Paris courtesy of the night train. Long live the train and everyone who uses it!
Our climbing day turns into a proper wander around the Champcella area, with plenty of twists and turns! Initially heading for the routes above La Roche, we eventually opt for the morning sunshine on La Rampe, above Lac de la Rama…
One route and a nap later, we arrive at the start of the approach to the routes above La Roche… Despite our fine climbing history together, with outings such as the Pierre Allain on the Meije and the South Pillar of the Barre des Écrins, today we stumble at the very first steps of the approach… In fact, we don’t even get out of the car!!
Time for plan B… I suggest we return to the Pilier de Rame, park at the top and abseil down a route that we’ll climb back up in three pitches… You have to listen when laziness speaks, especially when it affects the whole rope team!
