Jody and I guide a cheerful Belgian crew up Mont-Blanc on skis via the Grands Mulets: clear skies, a summit for everyone and tired legs on the way down.

Jody calls me in for backup to guide a cheerful bunch of Belgians to the summit of Mont-Blanc... And since all these jokers would rather slide down the mountain on skis than spend hours walking down, we're giving it a go with our planks!
We take the historic Grands Mulets route, the classic way to climb Mont-Blanc on skis... On the way up, we of course avoid the seracs of the Petit Plateau by following the beautiful north ridge of the Goûter. This ascent makes you earn your summit, with over 1,700 m of elevation gain, some of it with skis on our packs. But it takes more than that to scare this bunch, who fortunately have taken the time to acclimatise over the previous few days...
The result: everyone reaches the summit (even the guides), in dream weather, without a breath of wind and with temperatures almost worryingly warm for late May!
The ski descent is a world away from the long summer slog, but it still takes some energy, between legs tired from the climb, the altitude and those “little” uphill sections at the end!
