SKI TOURING AND SAILING IN THE LYNGEN ALPS

Setting off from Tromsø, we head into the snowy landscapes of northern Norway on a trip combining sailing and ski touring. From Reinøya to Uløya, our days alternate between rewarding climbs, descents overlooking the sea and sailing between Arctic islands.

The Lyngen Alps stretch for nearly 90 km and reach their highest point at Jiekkevarre, at 1,834 m. Glaciers, wooded valleys and narrow fjords create a landscape where the mountains meet the sea. Here, the pleasure of skiing comes with the added delight of finishing a descent right by the water...

After skiing, we return aboard to share the day’s stories and sail towards our next playground. The boat becomes our base, with mountains on the horizon and, if the season and clear skies allow, perhaps a glimpse of the northern lights!

A journey from fjord to fjord, between sea and mountains, discovering ski touring in Norway through days on skis and life aboard.

Day 1: meeting and welcome aboard

Meet at the boat in Tromsø harbour from 6 pm.
Settle in, followed by a safety briefing and a check of everyone’s equipment.

Depending on the group’s arrival times, we may sail to Ringvassøya or Reinøya, at the gateway to the Lyngen Alps, and spend the first night at anchor, ready to ski the following morning.

Dinner and overnight aboard.

Days 2 to 7

Breakfast aboard.
Transfer ashore by inflatable dinghy at the foot of the mountains, with a packed lunch prepared by our onboard cook.
Return to the sailing boat in the late afternoon after your day’s skiing.
A short sail to the next ski spot.
Afternoon snacks, aperitifs and dinner aboard.
At some anchorages, there may be an opportunity to enjoy a Norwegian sauna.
If conditions allow, look out for the northern lights from the deck.
Overnight at anchor.

Return to Tromsø harbour on the evening before the end of your stay.

Day 8

Breakfast aboard and departure from the boat by 9 am.
Farewell in Tromsø harbour, followed by your return flight.

Please note: this itinerary is a guide. The mountain guide makes the final decisions and may adjust the programme at any time for safety reasons, according to the weather, sea conditions and the skiers’ fitness and technical ability.
