Ski touring on Aiguillas via Les Gourenqs with Patrick: kick turns, wind and bells from Freissinières, followed by a powder descent with no turn wasted.

Today, I suggest that Patrick leave the Guisane valley behind and come skiing near Freissinières. Several reasons for that: Aiguillas is the most beautiful mountain in the entire Southern Alps, of course; once again, bad weather and wind are coming our way from Savoie, and we’ll be more sheltered here... And I know a few powder reserves that should keep us happy for the day! Yesterday, while touring around the Tête de Gaulent, I got a first-hand look at how well the powder was holding up on this mountain!
Patrick is preparing for a high-altitude ski trip. This ski touring day on Aiguillas is a chance to fine-tune a few things and work on his fitness! Naturally, if we can also enjoy some good skiing in splendid surroundings without seeing a soul, we’re not going to complain!
Kick turns in Les Gourenqs and bells from Freissinières
During the climb, we keep an eye on the clouds gradually spreading across the north of the département... Here, as expected, we’re getting off much more lightly!
After a hundred or so kick turns in Les Gourenqs, the wind and our legs finally get the better of us! As the first gusts catch us in this very alpine setting, the sound of bells from Freissinières reaches us from 1,500 m below... Quite a contrast!
A powder descent with not a turn wasted
The descent is everything we’d imagined, perhaps even a little better! Not a turn wasted all the way down to 1,600 m!
