Roche Paillon Couloir and Traverse

With Nico and Tom, I round off our trip with the Roche Paillon couloir and traverse towards Émile Pic: snowy ridges and mixed climbing in the Écrins.

Nico and Tom roped up on a snowy ridge of the Roche Paillon–Émile Pic traverse, with mist drifting around the peaks.

To round off this mountaineering trip with Nico and Tom, we head for Roche Paillon in the Écrins. With plenty of snow still around early in the season, the ridge is looking its best.

It has everything: a fairly steep couloir, a ridge straight out of a Samivel illustration, alternating between mixed ground and snow, and of course a dream panorama. One to climb again and again!

A route that calls on a wide range of mountaineering skills.
