We start the mountaineering season in the Écrins with two introductory days, from first steps in crampons on Glacier Blanc to sunrise on Roche Faurio.
It's been a while now that Manu (there's a "nu" in Manu!) has been at the top of the blog (see here). Now that the housewife under 50 has had her fill of the view, it’s time to move on! The grand season of mountaineering introductions is back! For this first introductory session of the season, I’m guiding Céline, Sébastien, Julien, Guillaume, and Jérôme.... The conditions are idyllic: beautiful weather, a mountain still cloaked in its snowy mantle, displaying shapes and colors with an almost erotic allure! On the first day, we’ll be trekking across the Glacier Blanc, the perfect spot for ice climbing lessons… just enough time to get used to the “instruments of torture” that mountaineers strap to their feet! Then we’ll head to the Ecrins refuge, which is pretty packed!
The next day, we headed to La Roche Faurio... An early start let us enjoy a magnificent sunrise... Just the basics!
In every mountaineer there’s a penguin waiting to come out... And as soon as we find the right terrain, the penguin inside us can finally come out to play... The mountaineer is a big slacker, always looking for the path of least resistance.

Practical Info / Route Topo
J1 — Ice skills on Glacier Blanc
- Céline, Sébastien, Julien, Guillaume and Jérôme get the feel of walking in crampons on Glacier Blanc. We then head up to the Refuge des Écrins.
J2 — Sunrise on Roche Faurio
- We set off early for Roche Faurio and catch the sunrise. On the way down, our inner penguins finally get their moment.
