This weekend I meet a lovely crew of friends and cousins who have come to let loose on the slopes of La Meije. It’s their first taste of off-piste skiing in La Grave, and it’s love at first sight!
Things could certainly have been worse! Friday’s weather isn’t great, but we can still see where we’re going, and 10 cm of fresh snow welcomes us for a gentle start. There’s nobody around. We keep lapping the runs until nightfall!
Then things step up a gear! Overnight, more snow falls than forecast, and the skies clear in the morning! Of course, it’s Saturday, so we’re not the only ones letting out whoops in the 30 cm of pow... but it was very, very good! With a lovely little restaurant stop halfway through, of course! And for once, the snow has fallen without wind, onto an already well-settled snowpack: a little more peace of mind while skiing!
La Grave initiation: passed!
Thanks, lads!
