Climbing Roche Faurio in the Écrins: glaciers, fresh snow and an alpine start for a beautiful journey through the high mountains to 3,730 m.

Without a moment's rest, I'm straight back out with Marie, Aurélien and Loïc. A quick trip across the glacier and up to the Écrins hut, just in time to watch the rain fall, beer in hand!
The usual 3 a.m. wake-up call... and this one hurts. Outside, the full moon and clearing clouds give the mountains a mysterious atmosphere.
Unlike yesterday, the snow hasn't refrozen properly overnight. We're in for some serious wallowing in the steep upper section of the route!
Fortunately, the view from the summit makes all the effort worthwhile, and the mountains look stunning with their fresh dusting of snow.
On the way down, we quickly switch to sliding on our backsides — an incredibly efficient technique when tiredness starts to kick in!
See you next time... maybe on skis!
