Two days of family ski touring with children aged seven and up: a cosy hut, fresh powder, a birthday and plenty of little adventures along the way.

After our autumn mountain outing during the All Saints’ holidays, this time the plan is to introduce an extended family tribe to the winter mountains: nine people, aged seven to somewhat older!
Manu’s enthusiasm is a great driving force. As for me, I’ve been adopted by the family, and the parents trust me to leave plenty of room for improvisation. “Working” in these conditions is a real pleasure!
Day 1 — Little adventurers on their way to the hut
We set off on a two-day mini ski tour in a quiet corner of the mountains that suits everyone, with a night in a cosy little hut as our reward.
Of course, this sort of expedition takes a little organisation. The youngest go up on snowshoes, while the older members carry the skis and everything we need for two days in the mountains.
Winter has returned over the past few days, with fresh snow down in the valley and a lovely coating of powder across the mountains. Exploring this landscape with a band of mischievous little adventurers, full of questions and completely captivated by their surroundings, is a joy!
They’re a determined bunch, steadily nibbling away at the day’s 500 metres of ascent. A short first ski descent takes us to the hut for an evening of “luxury”. And tonight, it’s Lou’s birthday!
Day 2 — Blue skies and first powder tracks
The next morning brings clear blue skies over the mountains. Not a single human track around us, only animal prints!
Today, another 250 metres of ascent lead to a long descent back to the car. A chance for everyone to try their hand at powder skiing and learn how to avoid the trees!
